Illinois Soybean Center
WHAT IS THE ILLINOIS SOYBEAN CENTER?
The Illinois Soybean Center [ISC] is a center "without walls" that draws upon dozens of faculty and staff from the College of Agricultural Sciences, the College of Science and the School of Medicine for its programs and resources. It was established to serve the needs of stakeholders in soybean production, processing, and consumption. This diverse array of interests and disciplines within the ISC assures that many areas of soybean research, teaching and outreach can be addressed by multi-disciplinary teams.
The ISC is based on the strong tradition at Southern Illinois University Carbondale of research on soybeans; training students in using soybeans as a model crop; and outreach on soybean production and utilization. The location of the university, geographically, topographically and environmentally in a transition zone between northern and southern regions of soybean productions gives it a unique opportunity to address problems of soybean management that manifest at the state, regional and national levels.
