Message from the Dean

As the academic year comes to a close and another class of proud new graduates walks across the commencement stage and off to the next stage of life, I’d like to take a minute to say we are proud of all they’ve accomplished this year.  Our students continue to be our greatest asset – which is evident from the stories in this newsletter.

They would probably be the first to say they don’t do it all alone – training great students requires commitment from our faculty, staff, administrators, friends of the college and alumni. The college is very fortunate to be surrounded by great individuals who contribute positively to our mission in preparing these students for the next step in life. Please join us at our celebration luncheon immediately following commencement – we hope to see many of you here at our college.

Two new faculty members will be joining the college soon.  Dr. Karla Gage accepted the position as Assistant Professor in Weed Science and will be a faculty member in the Department of Plant, Soil, and Agricultural Systems.  Dr. Jeb Asirvatham has accepted a position of Assistant Professor in Agribusiness Finance and Management and will be joining the faculty of the Agribusiness Department.  The college looks forward to these individuals joining the faculty. Please be on the lookout for them and introduce yourself when given an opportunity.

The college celebrated the 63rd Annual All Ag Banquet on February 27 at the SIU Student Center.  We enjoyed the evening with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and industry partners. You can read about the awards in this newsletter.

The budget situation in the state continues to be a “hot button”.   At this time, there is no actual approved budget, but rather conversations on the range of possibilities.  To learn more, please visit the chancellor’s office budget regarding the current status.  I encourage you to visit the website and learn more about the budget and as it relates to our university.

In closing, we wish you a safe and enjoyable summer!
