'Scholar' is Theme for College's Research Magazine
The College of Agricultural Sciences at SIU released its annual research magazine, “AgriSearch,” this fall, after a brief interruption in the publishing schedule. The research magazine follows a theme each year. This year’s theme is “Scholar.”

PotashCorp Invests in SIU Agriculture Students
Representatives from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and PotashCorp were on campus Saturday for a presentation and announcement of a $300,000 donation to the College of Agricultural Science’s PotashCorp Pathway to Excellence Program.

Student to meet with nation’s Ag industry leaders
Emily Loehmer, a Southern Illinois University Carbondale graduate student, wants to make an impact in public health nutrition. She’ll have the chance to meet policy makers and experts in that area at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Outlook Forum next month as a participant in the Student Diversity Program, a section of the forum.

College To Host 2012 Cooperative Youth Conference
The College of Agricultural Sciences is set to host the 2012 Cooperative Youth Conference June 7-8. The conference provides hands-on activities and learning experiences to high school juniors and seniors throughout Illinois.

College Welcomes New Dean!
The College of Agricultural Sciences is set to welcome a new Dean. Dr. Mickey A. Latour will take over as the Dean on July 1, 2012. Dr. Latour comes to the College from Purdue, where he served as Associate Dean for Purdue Extended Campus and chief director of Purdue University Distance Learning.

2012 Ag Industry Day A Success!
Fun was had by all at the 2012 Agriculture Industry Days held on Friday, April 20, 2012 at University Farms on the campus of Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

College Welcomes Students Back For Fall 2011!
The College of Agricultural Sciences is proud to welcome students for Fall 2011! Enrollment is once again up! Our College is rapidly expanding as students learn about the good things we have to offer!

College Receives Award For Afghanistan Efforts
As part of its ongoing global education efforts, the College of Agricultural Sciences was more than happy to step-up to the plate and partner with the US National Guard to train soldiers involved with an agribusiness development team. Fifteen of the College’s faculty helped train 22 soldiers at the SIUC farms in preparation for their deployment to Afghanistan. The objective for the training was for the team to assist with rebuilding the rural and cultural infrastructure in Afghanistan.

Green Roof Open House Big Hit!
As part of the 2011 Agriculture Industry Days at the College of Agricultural Sciences, people flocked to visit the new green roof atop the Agriculture Building.

Winters Named Interim Dean Of Agriculture College
Dr. Todd A. Winters, Associate Dean for the College of Agricultural Sciences at SIUC, was named Interim Dean, filling a vacancy created December 31, 2009 with the retirement of Dr. Gary Minish.

Can You Say "Derecho"?
According to the National Weather Service, a “derecho” is a “widespread and long-lived windstorm that is associated with a band of rapidly moving showers and thunderstorms.” To the residents of Carbondale, the “derecho” that hit on May 8, 2009 was a disaster like none had ever witnessed before.

Doctoral Program Approved
There is a long-awaited change taking place within the College of Agricultural Sciences. On December 4, 2007 the Illinois Board of Higher Education approved a Ph.D. Degree Program for the College. The College is moving forward with final planning for the program. Dr. Gary Minish, Dean, anticipates the College will strive to enroll the first students into the newly developed program in Fall 2008.
