New Field Corse Takes SIUC Students To Rainforests
June 23, 2010
A new course offering at SIUC will take students to the rainforests of Central America, providing them with an opportunity to learn and live in a foreign country while practicing science in the wild. The new course, Tropical Ecology Field Course, will be offered in the Department of Forestry under the direction of Dr. Andrew Carver, Professor of Forestry, and Dr. Clay Nielsen, Assistant Professor in Forestry. The first class of students participated in a research project in the forests of Soberania National Park in Panama. Students collected samples, set-up remote cameras, and worked with local biologists and park officials. The Forestry Department hopes to offer the course at least once a year.
