Community Nutrition

The Master of Science degree major in Food and Nutrition with a concentration in Community Nutrition is an accredited, advanced degree dietetic internship program designed for students who want a graduate degree and also want to qualify to take the examination for Registered Dietitians (R.D.).

We incorporate the public health nutrition knowledge and skills criteria of the Association of Graduate Programs in Public Health Nutrition, Inc. and the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Our dynamic, graduate program empowers students with the education and supervised practice experiences necessary to facilitate entry level competence in dietetics.

The Combined Masters and Dietetic Intership Program can be completed in 24-30 months.  All coursework and thesis/research paper are completed prior to going out on the internship.

The internship offers three rotations for each of the three areas of practice.  These include food service management, clinical (medical nutrition therapy), and community/public health nutrition.  Each rotation is 10-11 weeks long with over 1200 hours of one-on-one hands-on supervised practice completed.

We also offer a thesis or research paper option, or a non-thesis option.  The thesis or research paper option will be completed by working with a Food and Nutrition faculty member.  They will direct your work and mentor you while you are developing a complete thesis or research paper.

If a thesis or research paper is not of interest, you can choose our non-thesis option.  With this, an additional two courses would need to be completed along with the other required coursework prior to the internship.

Students interested in community nutrition and its role in promoting health and preventing disease apply to our exceptional program from all over the United States and the world.
